All about me...
Throughout my teaching career, I have taught languages and culture to students of all ages. I love learning and immersing myself in other cultures and I hope to replicate this love of languages in my students.
My college career started here in Durango at Fort Lewis, after having grown up in Chicago. During my sophomore year of college I enrolled in a four week summer school course in Mexico which was a life changing moment. I changed my major from biology to Spanish and never looked back. I studied in Ecuador and Spain, an immersive experience that taught me so much about life while learning Spanish. In 1996, I graduated from Fort Lewis with a degree in Spanish and Bilingual education.
I truly believe that everyone is more than capable to learn a second language at any age and that it should not be hard, rather it should be enjoyable. My teaching style incorporates the theories of comprehensible input, which are not based on grammar but on the input of meaningful messages in the target language. Learning a language truly opens your mind and heart to people and culture and my classroom is a great place to experience this.
Beyond my career, I have lots of hobbies and love spending time with my amazing family. My husband, Charlie, is an Aussie and we have known each other since 1999. Our journey together brought us to Melbourne, Australia where we lived for 10 years. We have a beautiful and clever daughter named Eliza who is the joy of our lives. She was born in Melbourne in 2008 and is the best traveler.
In my free time, I love hiking with my dog, doing yoga, dancing and cooking. I always look for opportunities to chat in Spanish with anyone! Our family loves to camp, hang out on the water and travel.

El aprendizaje de una lengua verdaderamente abre la mente y el corazón a la gente y la cultura.Mi clase aula es un gran lugar para experimentar esto.
Más allá de mi carrera, tengo un montón de aficiones y me encanta pasar tiempo con mi familia. Mi marido, Charlie, es un australiano y hemos conocido desde 1999. Nuestro viaje juntos nos llevó a Melbourne, Australia, donde vivimos durante 10 años. Tenemos una hija hermosa e inteligente llamada Eliza, que es la alegría de nuestras vidas. Ella nació en Melbourne en 2008 y es una buena viajera.
En mi tiempo libre, me gusta correr en las montañas, hacer yoga, bailar y hacer clases de ejercicios. Siempre busco oportunidades para hablar en español con quienquiera! Nuestra familia nos encanta acampar, pasar el rato en el agua y ir de viajes.
